You can order their military records because the National Archives opens all records to the public after 62 of discharge.
What happens if the Veteran was discharged less than 62 years ago?
It is a possibility that you could request limited information from their Military Personnel File.

What happens when I actually request military records?
An email will be sent that lets you know we are processing your request.  Then you will get a 2nd email when it is complete for you to download and view.

As next of kin of a Veteran, what happens when they pass away?
You will be able to either mail or fax a request pertaining to Military Records Standard Form to the National Personnel Records Center.
