Hi, i'm a parent of a U.S born child. We're abroad and would like to know what to do in case i need a replacement for a SSN card.
================
Well, you'll need some document, in order to prove the child's U.S citizenship.
May i ask if you already established the child's U.S citizenship with us?
No, i haven't do that.
I was wondering, if my documents have another purpose aside from identification?
In fact, they have it for us. Fro example, we may use your U.S passport with double end: Proof of citizenship and individual identity.
================
That's interesting, you know?. Ok, i would like to return to the SSN card replacement matter, what can you tell me then?
Ok. Your child's SSN card can be replaced if get lost or stolen. In that regard, you have a limit of 3 replacements in a year and just 10 replacements in your lifetime. Name changes and others do not count for these limits.
================
Oh right. And what kind of documents would i need for that?
You'll need certain documents to prove your child's U.S citizenship. Those documents could be a U.S birth certificate or a U.S passport.
You told me earlier that a document could be used with more than a purpose, don't you?
Correct. As i said before it could be used for citizenship and identification.
