[Chris Johnson]e Predicts He Will Lead the League in Rushing

chamat[Chris Johnson]e|/nfl/players/8801 tweeted yesterday that he predicts he will lead the league in rushing this season. I saw it after it was re-tweeted because I do not follow [Chris Johnson]e and his nonsense anymore. There was already some good discussion on this in the fanshots here .
I would think that CJ would be done with predictions after he predicted 2,500 yards a couple of years ago and barely got half of that, but to each his own. Hopefully CJ is backing up those words by getting himself in better shape to be ready to go this year than he was last year. You can say whatever you want about his performance last season, but it was obvious that he was not ready to go in week one after the holdout.
The good news is he will be in Nashville this offseason for the OTAs because he has incentives his contract that pay him to be here. Maybe they will be able to work more pass routes in for him than the one where he just runs out and turns around. Making him a threat in the passing game would really help open things up for him to run the ball.

FWIW, CJ ran a lot of "creative" pass routes.
He lined up at WR, ran wheel routes out of the backfield, had catches down the sideline, etc.
TennesseeTyrants - March 4, 2012 reply
i halfway agree ...
I think the positioning, placement and timing of the CJ pass routes were creative . but as far as actual route running goes, CJ is pretty fond the latter part of this statement:
Maybe they will be able to work more pass routes in for him than the one where he just runs out and turns around.
Which btw made me spew-liquid-thru-nose upon reading.
I honestly think CJ has a ton of room to grow in the passing game, and thats something the Titans really, really need to look into because it will
A) allow them to keep CJ on the field as an offensive threat when we are in an obvious passing situation. And as much as we all love the 3rd and 20 draw play call .
B) it will extend CJs career and more importantly improve his effectiveness over the next 4 years. The time to get all we can from this guy is right now .
C) it will get him into more open spaces which is supposedly what he needs to thrive. It should also help all the other receivers on the field see a little more space.

sounds good
oilertitan - March 4, 2012 reply
no TT
he ran 1 wheel route, 1 go route.
but 90% of his routes where curls, where he caught the ball and was hit immediately
Ice0ne (CAJ) - March 4, 2012 reply
Some people are seemingly angry at CJ about this. But these are the same people who said he "didn't care" during the season.
Do I think CJ will lead the league in rushing? No. But Im glad thats a goal he has and Id be far more concerned if it werent. This is a non-story.

I'm more intrigued by the fact that he used proper capitalization.
FYNBYAC - March 4, 2012 reply
He almost had proper spelling for all the words too
Seal Clubbing - March 4, 2012 reply

Ice0ne (CAJ) - March 4, 2012 reply
Even if he's in the Top 10 i'll be happy
StPrattrick - March 4, 2012 reply
Along with a productive passing game...
StPrattrick - March 4, 2012 reply
we can only hope
jv1222 - March 5, 2012 reply
Meh.
WinnipegTitanFan13 - March 4, 2012 reply
I would be really, really surprised if CJ leads the league in rushing
I think Id be shocked if he ever hits 1,500 again.
BythePowerofMunchak! - March 4, 2012 reply
1500 might be enough to lead the league in rushing
alijeal - March 4, 2012 reply
it wouldn't really suprise me because you are forgetting that we have britt that made hass look like an above average player
so if locker is what we think he is and britt stays healthy teams are going to have to choose between guarding against the run game or the passing game.
jv1222 - March 5, 2012 reply
I'd settle for him just looking like he was trying to lead the league in rushing

CJ will lead the league?? Eh... hope so.
On a more important note, at the 20 pick, we need one of three players Alshon Jeffery, Mark Barron or Melvin Ingram. Everything else just wont do.
LockeRistheFUTURE - March 4, 2012 reply
hope you like Barron, Ive got 5 bucks that says those other two are long gone.
D. Reese - March 4, 2012 reply
how about Mercifulnotless?
nolesbroncos3456 - March 4, 2012 reply
Wouldn't that make him merciful?
TitanNDCClothing - March 5, 2012 reply
I hope he's saying this because Munch has shown him the plan for the new Interior Line
That plus a full off- season could well bring the real CJ back. Thats something I want to see.
Father of Zeus - March 4, 2012 reply
Speaking of RBs...
The Seahawks just signed Marshawn Lynch to a 4 year, 31 million dollar deal with 18 mil guaranteed.
NoMoreMustache - March 4, 2012 reply
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I wanted Webster/Reinfeldt to use his Seattle connections to bring in Lynch
nolesbroncos3456 - March 4, 2012 reply
that never would have happened
assuming that seattle lets him walk he is not going to want to stay as a back up
jv1222 - March 5, 2012 reply
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
The Tennessee Titans are likely to use their franchise tag on safety Michael Griffin

oh well, buys us some time to find his replacement
StPrattrick - March 4, 2012 reply
There goes $6.2 mil down the drain .....
Guess since Hope is gone they had to waste money on the other epic fail safety
Dynamic Dreadlocks - March 4, 2012 reply
I guess this means no Barron much to the rage/chagrin to MCM lol
nolesbroncos3456 - March 4, 2012 reply
so now that Barrons off the list (he might be BPA but we just sank 6 mill into the FS position, it doesnt seem likely) it looks more and more like were going to draft Poe or another DT.
D. Reese - March 4, 2012 reply
Barron is more of a SS type anyways
does this mean, Griffin at FS and Babs at SS?
nolesbroncos3456 - March 4, 2012 reply
Id imagine so, it wouldnt make sense to franchise someone if youre not going to play him. maybe theyll bring someone in to push Babineaux but I doubt it. I can live with it for another year.
D. Reese - March 4, 2012 reply
Me too.
As much as weve harped on Griff the past few seasons, perhaps an upgraded DL would get him closer to his old form. Less is more I think is a good thing for him. If this is true, we can also pretty much say bye to Finnegan as well.
ronburgundy7427 - March 4, 2012 reply
Seems to point in the direction of a CB in round 1
Father of Zeus - March 5, 2012 reply
true that, there are a few good ones that might last. I wouldnt hate Kirkpatrick. Jenkins has a big rap sheet but man, he can really play.
D. Reese - March 5, 2012 reply
Jenkins is cromartie light in the baby momma department though
nolesbroncos3456 - March 5, 2012 reply
4 kids at age 21. yikes.
D. Reese - March 5, 2012 reply
Griffin is more of a SS, too, lol.
It depends on what we call our safeties, I guess, but I could see any combination of the 3 of them being doable.

Someone described it well:
sometimes it might seem like a team is wasting it on an unworthy player. In those situations the team has put a lot more thought and work into the decision than it seems.
The team looked at their offseason needs, free-agency talent, their drafting position and decided that Even though this guy is obviously not in the top five at his position, we can afford to franchise him and if we let him go we will get worse at that position next season.
I think thats probably the case here so
NoMoreMustache - March 4, 2012 reply
Speaking of interesting decisions:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2110303/Donald-Sterling-allegedly-consulted-prostitute-Clippers-basketball-issues.html
lol no wonder the Clippers will forever be the Clippers of old, no matter who they trade for
nolesbroncos3456 - March 5, 2012 reply
Goal
Its great that he has that as a goal. The question is, what happens if he isnt on track to get there. I seem to remember the last time he made a prediction, he wasnt close to it but the team still played well and he was happy. If its the same case here, then this is a non-issue.
I also think that well be running the ball less anyway, so unless hes hitting those long gains he wont be getting there.
Evanbio - March 5, 2012 reply
Pretty sure CJ will silence the Haterz also!
My prediction CJ 1700 yards rushing 600yards receiving 13 tds!
datboybevans - March 5, 2012 reply
mmmmm
I think hell do better, because, lord, it could hardly get worse.
I hesitate to predict before we see what kind of moves, if any, they make at O-line but Id say more like 1,250 yards rushing, 450 yards receiving, 9 touchdowns.
numbertenox - March 5, 2012 reply
Texans just gave Foster $43.5M for 5 years, $21M guaranteed.
And we gave CJ how much?
MusicCityMashers - March 5, 2012 reply
...
I don't know, man.
.
CJ's contract isn't discussed much around here.
fanoftheunderdogs - March 5, 2012 reply
about two Michael Griffins less than that, its a lot of money either way.
D. Reese - March 5, 2012 reply
CJ should stop talking about leading the league in rushing
And let his play do the talking.
