It is a device to measures alcohol level and prevents the motorist to start the vehicle until an acceptable breath sample is provided.
The device can be ordered by a court to be installed.
What will happen if it is ordered by a court?
When that happens, the device will remain installed on any vehicles the motorist owns or operate for at least six months. In addition it will be added to the driver license record even if the license is revoked.

What happens when someone is convicted to Leandra's Law?
They will either enter a period of probation or to a conditional discharge. Ignition interlock device will remain at least  12 months in any owned or operated vehicle of this person.
Do the Leandra's Law contain different parts?
Yes. The law establishes a new Class E Felony which prevent any person to operate a motor vehicle under alcohol or drugs influence when a child 15 years old or younger is present in the vehicle as a passenger. Other than that, there is the part where the convicted person is sentence as described above.

When can i apply a new driver license without the ignition interlock restriction?
You can apply for a new document when your ignition interlock monitor give you a form that states that you do not need the device anymore. You need to take this form to a local DMV office to apply.

Yes the Leandra's Law still applied under those conditions.
