It's all been quiet on the unrestricted free-agent front regarding Oakland Raiders tight end [Zach Miller]e|/nfl/players/8292 , but there's a good reason for that. SN correspondent Steve Corkran reports for the Contra Costa Times it's because Oakland officials are expected to re-sign him in the next few days so he's ready to practice with the team Thursday ??? the first day veterans with new contracts can do so.
The Raiders have waited to act on Miller because they've been sorting out the rest of their roster and salary concerns. Miller has been a high priority since early in the offseason, and a necessity for their offense to keep its momentum under coach Hue Jackson.

Oakland has had plenty of big issues in its passing game, including trying to find a steady quarterback and consistent wide receivers. In addition to running back Darren McFadden, Miller is an indispensable part of the team's game plan.
Miller led the Raiders in receptions and receiving yards in each of the past three seasons, with no other Raider coming close to his pass-catching production totals.
The 6-5, 256-pounder is entering his fifth NFL season at only 25 and just got his first Pro Bowl nod in 2010. That makes him a great long-term investment for the team.
