Brno Grand Prix? There is a risk of ticket prices rising
The most expensive item is the listing fee every year before the Grand Prix. This year it was about one hundred and fifteen million crowns. "The mass of people who come to Brno during the Grand Prix will spend money there on accommodation, food or entertainment, which should more or less offset the costs associated with organizing the event, including the listing fee," said economist Petr Pelc.
According to him, the importance of the race is also in attracting tourists to the city. "Brno does not have so many world tourist attractions. The big price attracts visitors from abroad. It is as important for Brno as, for example, the Tuřany airport or the exhibition center. And these are projects that are supported from public money," added the economist.
Grand Prix in Brno
- costs for the past five years: 686 million crowns
- profits from the past five years: 682 million crowns
- problem: lack of money to organize, increasing listing fee for the promotional company Dorna
- possible solutions: more money from the state, use of advertising space, increase in ticket prices
- state of play: negotiations on a new contract for the next five years
According to the director of the Institute of Public Administration, Filip Hrůza, the organizers must now evaluate whether the race is advantageous for Brno. "The Grand Prix sucks money out of public budgets for other matters. But to a certain extent, it's a political issue, not an economic one," he thinks.
In the future, the cost of a motoring event may be even higher. In the game, there is a variant to increase the listing fee almost double.
"The situation is not closed, we must try to negotiate the best possible conditions with Dorna. It also depends on the extent to which the state is ready to contribute to the race. If the worst-case scenarios come true, I am afraid it is not realistic the region paid the amount, "admitted the mayor of Brno Markéta Vaňková.
As Deník Rovnost has already informed, representatives of the South Moravian Region and Brno are also discussing the possibility of using advertising due to difficulties in raising money for the Grand Prix. "Dorna's condition is that the advertisement must be placed in places that do not occupy the cameras. The selection of companies is also limited, because if Dorna has a general sponsor, then a company from the same area cannot be the second sponsor," Vaňková explained.
Organizers can also get more money from tickets in the coming years. "We have to sit down and say what the costs will actually be. And we have to adjust the revaluation of tickets accordingly," said the Brno opposition representative for the ANO movement and former mayor Petr Vokřál.
Accident on D5: A motorway crash closed the highway
The event was reported around 08:00 at the 22nd kilometer in the direction of Prague. "The highway is closed, at least for freight transport. Cars can go through petrol," said police spokeswoman Michaela Richterová in the morning. The operation was resumed around 2:30 p.m. According to Richter, the preliminary damage is at least two million crowns, and the police are investigating the cause of the accident.
Petr Svoboda, a spokesman for the Central Bohemian fire brigade, stated that one truck was transporting passenger cars and the other plastic granulate. "Due to the large impact, the transported vehicles were shifted, which the firefighters first had to secure against a possible fall," he added.
One of the cars had a damaged fuel tank, from which about 200 liters of diesel leaked. The firefighters managed to drain another 200 liters. Employees of the Department of the Environment of Beroun Town Hall were called to the accident due to a fuel leak. The rescue of crashed vehicles and the passage of the highway was ensured by a private company, which also extracted contaminated soil.
